SAFEGUARDING IN SCHOOL - 'LOCKDOWN DRILL' TODAY

    15 October 2025 (by admin)

All part of St. Bernard's Catholic Primary School keeping children safe on site.

The children were, as usual, a credit to the school. They were all sensible and followed instructions and guidance accordingly.

School establishments up and down the country have LOCKDOWN drills and procedures. They also have regular FIRE DRILLS. We had a school fire drill during the first few weeks of the school term.

Why have a LOCKDOWN procedure in a school setting?

Schools have developed LOCKDOWN procedures that are a sensible and proportionate response to any external or internal incident which has the potential to pose a threat to the safety of staff and pupils in the school. It's about minimising risk and familiarising stakeholders with safety procedures and routines.

Regular practice of lockdown drills & fire drills helps St. Bernard's staff and pupils become familiar with the procedure, reducing stress and improving the likelihood of a safe, smooth, and effective response during a real emergency.

It's all part of our school safeguarding agenda...keeping children and staff as safe as can be.

WELL DONE to the CHILDREN today.
