SAFEGUARDING in SCHOOL - LOCKDOWN DRILL TODAY

    8 May 2025 (by admin)

A BIG well done to all the children and staff today because St. Bernard's initiated a LOCKDOWN DRILL on the school premises this afternoon.

The children were, as usual, a credit to the school. They were all sensible and followed instructions and guidance accordingly.

School establishments up and down the country have LOCKDOWN drills and procedures. They also have regular FIRE DRILLS.

Why have a LOCKDOWN procedure in a school setting?

Schools have developed LOCKDOWN procedures that are a sensible and proportionate response to any external or internal incident which has the potential to pose a threat to the safety of staff and pupils in the school. It's about minimising risk.

Regular practice of lockdown drills & fire drills helps St. Bernard's staff and pupils become familiar with the procedure, reducing stress and improving the likelihood of a smooth and effective response during a real emergency.

It's all part of our safeguarding agenda...keeping children and staff as safe as can be.

WELL DONE to the CHILDREN today.
