SCHOOL ATTENDANCE MATTERS - it just does!

We are always talking about GOOD ATTENDANCE and why GOOD ATTENDANCE matters to you and your child - it's about OPPORTUNITY. Make sure you read the newsletter and safeguarding newsletters (available on the school website). EVERY DAY in school MATTERS!

At St. Bernard's Catholic Primary School, we very much aim to:

*have high expectations for every pupil’s attendance at school

*communicate these expectations clearly, strongly and consistently to parents and to pupils

*set expectations about attendance from the outset – from reception onwards

*explain to parents and pupils why good attendance is important and how it helps pupils to achieve

*listen to parents carefully to find out why their children are not attending well enough so that they can act accordingly

*challenge parents who do not make sure that their children attend, but also very much offer support where needed because family dynamics/situations are so very different

*have the right people in place to have conversations with parents regards attendance (DSL's, Head, Deputy, Family Support Worker, School nurse)

*ensure that attendance is always recorded and weekly figures presented to parents and staff

*make sure that attendance is ‘everyone’s business’ in school

*see the process of securing good attendance for all pupils as an ongoing process, never something that is ‘finished’

WE NEED YOUR FULL COOPERATION - it's a partnership thing.

Ask yourself, is your child's ATTENDANCE the best it can be? If you need to talk to us about issues related to school attendance and punctuality, please call.

    Thank you.
